IQ Testing (cognitive assessment)

What is a Cognitive Assessment?

A cognitive assessment is an intelligence test that is designed to measure general cognitive ability (IQ) and potential for learning. When you undergo an IQ test with us, you will receive a personalised, tailored report outlining your cognitive profile, including your strengths and weaknesses, as well as tailored recommendations on how you can best support your brain to get the personal, educational and/or professional outcomes you are hoping for.

Our Psychologists are highly trained in the administration and scoring of intelligence tests and in providing comprehensive reports for children and adults.

Why get a Cognitive Assessment?

Some of the most common reasons people seek cognitive assessments include:

  • To identify intellectual strengths and/or giftedness

  • To predict academic achievement or work performance

  • To support decision making about study and career pathways

  • To identify areas of cognitive difficulty or weakness

  • To support brain style assessments, i.e., Autism and ADHD

  • To assess how the brain is functioning after an injury

Who can be assessed?
We offer cognitive assessments to children and adults over the age of 6.

Components of a cognitive ssessment

A basic cognitive assessment incorporates the following:

  1. Initial consultation to gain background information and to identify the most appropriate level of assessment depth for the individual and their goals.

  2. Cognitive Assessment (we use the WISC V and the WAIS-IV)

  3. Feedback session to discuss assessment findings and recommendations

  4. Comprehensive report

If identified as important and relevant to assessment goals, additional assessment measures can be added onto the basic assessment. Some of these might include:

  • Free additional screening for suspected mental health conditions

  • Achievement testing

  • Adaptive behaviour assessments

Reports & Feedback

Following any assessment, your Psychologist will provide a comprehensive report explaining all tests used and all results, along with a comprehensive summary and list of recommendations for home, place of learning and/or work.

A 30 minute to 1 hour feedback session is then held with the client or parent/s to explain the results, go through the report and answer any additional questions. This session can also be used for planning of any further assessment or intervention that an individual may need or a parent may want to engage their child in.
